What is STRIVE Wentworth Training Program?
Written By: Brandon Black
If you have ever been a student, faculty, or simply walked through the campus at Wentworth Institute of Technology, I can guarantee that you should be saying “thank you” to a member of STRIVE Wentworth Training Program.
STRIVE Wentworth Training Program provides transitional opportunities for Boston Public School students, aged 18-22, who receive special education services. It is a community-based vocational training program that leads to internships, externships, employment, and postgraduate opportunities in the fields of Facilities Management, Hospitality, Customer Service, Business Management, and Public Works.
STRIVE Wentworth Training Program internships at Wentworth Institute of Technology include:
® Facilities Training Program
® Laundry Service Crew
® Grounds Crew
® Go Green Recycling Program
In simpler terms, the students apart of STRIVE Wentworth Training Program can be credited for making sure the campus runs smoothly. You can see these students in every building, residential and academic, as well as throughout the entire outdoor campus.
In the fall of 2019, I worked in Accelerate for my co-op at Wentworth Institute of Technology. I would go in at 9:00 AM each morning and before I really got going, the students in STRIVE Wentworth Training Program’s Go Green Recycling program would come in to collect the recycling. I kid you not, each and every time we would share a good morning or a quick smile. These daily 10 second interactions would give me the motivation I needed to get through my day. If I were having a slow morning, these bright individuals would give me the pick-me-up I needed.
Next time you see a student wearing their STRIVE Wentworth Training Program uniform around campus, consider extending a special “thank you”. The work they are doing deserves recognition beyond what I could ever explain. I look forward to seeing STRIVE Wentworth Training Program for years to come whenever visiting the Wentworth campus.
